Architectural Beauty: The Design and Style of The Frames

The Frames Luxury Accommodation is more than just a place to stay - it's a sensory journey through architectural brilliance and bespoke luxury. Nestled along the stunning Murray River in South Australia, this collection of retreats showcases a harmonious blend of modern design and the natural landscape, providing an unparalleled guest experience. Commissioned from award-winning architect Paul Pruszinski, a leader in environmentally sustainable design, The Frames sets a new benchmark for luxury, self-contained accommodation in Australia.

Pruszinski’s vision for The Frames focused on creating an environment that balances privacy, comfort, and a deep connection to the surrounding Riverland landscape. Each retreat is designed to allow guests to unwind in seclusion while still feeling immersed in the beauty of nature. The retreats are carefully positioned and screened to provide a sense of sanctuary, each boasting its own private pool, hydrotherapy spa, and infrared sauna. For those seeking an extra touch of luxury, the "Montage" retreat even offers an outdoor bath - perfect for star gazing under the expansive outback sky.

At the heart of the experience is a commitment to environmentally sustainable practices. The Frames was designed to conserve water and minimise energy usage, reducing its carbon footprint while maintaining exceptional standards of luxury. This is not just luxury for the sake of indulgence - it’s luxury that respects and preserves the unique environment it inhabits.

Inside, the interiors reflect the highest standard of design integrity, where five-star kitchens with premium appliances cater to gourmet cooking and private chef dining experiences. The bedrooms feature king-size electric beds, draped in deluxe linens, ensuring guests enjoy restful, restorative sleep. The open indoor and outdoor spaces flow effortlessly, creating multiple relaxation zones where guests can fully unwind.

Local artist Garry Duncan was commissioned to create unique artworks for each retreat, adding an extra layer of local authenticity. The retreats, named after these artworks - Pastiche, Montage, and Collage - each carry their own distinct character. Pastiche, a contemporary retreat, is infused with the vibrant hues of Riverland foliage and fruits. Montage embraces earthy, moody tones inspired by the flora and fauna of the riparian forest, while Collage pays homage to the rich Aboriginal heritage of the area, decorated in bold ochre tones that reflect the historical significance of the land.

Just as the art within The Frames draws from the surrounding landscape and culture, another example of this perfect synergy between art and nature can be found in Adelaide's Chihuly in the Botanic Garden exhibit. Chihuly's Garden Cycle exhibition is making its Australian debut, exclusive to Adelaide, from 27 September 2024 to 29 April 2025. Dale Chihuly’s glass sculptures, renowned worldwide, are displayed within the lush surroundings of the Adelaide Botanic Garden, creating a breathtaking interplay between man-made art and the organic beauty of nature. Much like the integration of Garry Duncan’s artworks at The Frames, Chihuly's creations transform their environment, enhancing the viewer’s experience and deepening their connection to the natural world.

Both The Frames and the Chihuly exhibit celebrate the fusion of art and nature in innovative ways. Whether you’re admiring Duncan’s artwork as you relax in a luxurious retreat or wandering through the gardens surrounded by Chihuly’s sculptures, these experiences highlight how thoughtful design can enhance our connection to the natural world. They serve as powerful reminders that art and architecture, when carefully crafted, can elevate not just the physical space, but also the way we experience the environment around us.

The Frames is not just a destination but a celebration of architecture, design, and the art of living. By combining luxury with sustainability, it offers guests an immersive experience that redefines modern self-contained accommodation. From its serene privacy to the thoughtful integration with the landscape and the luxurious appointments, staying at The Frames is an unforgettable journey into the very essence of Riverland elegance.
