These 5 stops do not take you on long winded detours, lengthening the time spent driving. They showcase the region’s diversity and give insight into what it’s like to be a local.

How many times have you driven past an inviting sign welcoming you to stop and pop in? Don’t let the need for arriving to your destination stop you from experiencing the unknown and stumbling upon another favourite experience to tell your friends about.

First stop – Banrock Station Wine & Wetland Centre – Kingston-On-Murray

Situated on an internationally listed Ramsar wetland, Banrock Station is committed to supporting environmental projects around the world through reinvesting wine sale profits. The brand has also been committed to environmental projects in the Riverland with the restoration of the Banrock wetland. The ecosystem which supports numerous threatened flora and fauna species, now experiences near natural wetting and drying cycles and you can learn more about this on your visit.

Admire the wetland from the wetland centre’s decking which provides panoramic views of the significant site. Share a tasting plate from their seasonal menu and make sure you have printed out your $25 gift voucher to use on your purchases which will be emailed to you upon confirmation of your booking with The Frames.

Second Stop- Backyard Bread – Barmera

Situated conveniently on the Sturt Highway at Barmera, Backyard Bread’s tasting café and providore is impossible to miss on your journey to The Frames. With some of the best coffee in the region, it is well worth a stop!

Backyard Bread is a local success story after Peter & Colleen built a traditional woodfired oven in their backyard in 2005. They began creating a range of toasted bread bites inspired by local flavours and made with locally sourced ingredients. The crunchy accompaniment to any cheese platter soon became a household name and must have for entertaining.

At the café you can enjoy nourishing light lunches, tasting plates and browse a diverse range of local produce from fruit and veg to olives, the famous Kolophon Capers, jams and preserves.

The eclectic mix of rustic homeliness makes the café a lovely stop, breaking up your journey from Adelaide and immersing yourself in the relaxed Riverland atmosphere.

Third Stop - Ruston’s Roses - Renmark

Originally a fruit orchard, Ruston’s Roses is now home to 50,000 rose bushes of nearly 4,000 varieties. With rows of roses as far as the eye can see, it is no wonder that in 2005 it was named home of the National Rose Collection of Australia.

However, there is more than just stopping to smell the roses in the immaculate gardens. Ruston’s Rose Garden and Function Centre holds something for everybody.

With an eclectic collection of vintage and historic racing cars and other motor memorabilia, car and history enthusiasts are kept entertained. Complementing the vehicle collection is a range of locally made corrugated tin sculptures, art and other giftware to browse.

The diverse centre is also home to Renmark’s only Thai restaurant, providing a vibrant and creative lunch, dinner and takeaway menu! There are also a range of locally made sweets which go nicely with a coffee or tea while sinking back into the lounge room setting enjoyment area.

Fourth Stop - Cammie’s Antiques – Paringa

A popular stop for guests of The Frames, Cammie’s Antiques & Collectibles, the largest treasure trove for all things eclectic and nostalgic in the Riverland. It is so big, that you might in fact have to make another trip back to make sure you haven’t overlooked a stunning antique piece!

Browse through their large range of restored antique furniture, garagenalia and fine china. Maybe you will find that piece of Royal Doulton ‘Roses’ that you are missing from your set.

From jewellery to saddlery, there is something for everyone to browse through at Cammie’s!

Fall in love with more than just one part of the Riverland and make your journey from Adelaide a memorable one with our suggested stops.
